After much discussion and to-ing and fro-ing and a heavy wince as we paid the deposit, we have now booked our honeymoon!
There were plenty of candidates as to where we wanted to go: South Africa (as this was all booked with a whole itinerary planned for our 40th birthdays), Japan (which was the alternative to South Africa), DisneyWorld, Canada, Norfolk.
But in the end we decided to plan a new trip. We both really like the idea of Las Vegas, but we also wanted a relaxing time away, which naturally suggested the Caribbean as a follow-up. We looked and it turns out that, unless you’re flying to Mexico, you don’t seem to be able to fly to the Caribbean without changing flights somewhere.
A common change was New York, so we thought “if we're changing in New York, why not stay a few nights??”
So we started building a trip that started in Las Vegas, moved on to New York and ended in St Lucia (Rosie had her sights set on St Lucia early on and there was nowhere that I particularly wanted to go instead so St Lucia it was). And if you’re having a honeymoon in St Lucia, you’ve kinda got to stay at Sandals, right?
We got our travel agent on the case to build the holiday for us but, when it came in a little over budget, and it meant there were no excursions included and we weren’t eating until we got to St Lucia, we had to re-think!
We looked at dropping a night here or there but felt that, in an attempt to get everywhere, we risked not enjoying anywhere! We weren’t dropping St Lucia so LV or NY had to go and, as NY can be done in a long weekend, that was the sacrifice. In reality it freed up nearly £2,000 which has got us all excitable for day trips from Vegas and drive-in volcanoes in St Lucia, although it will not be going towards the $1,200 gold-leaf steak you can get from the restaurant in our LV hotel!
A bit more research to do on where to go and what to do but we’ve got a good idea of what we want to do and the itinerary almost builds itself but at least now we can get excited about the honeymoon!
